Frank Collige

Public Adjuster at Property Pros Consulting
Website Address: Workmyclaim.com

Short company description:

We represent property owners when they need to file a claim against their insurance carrier.

What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?

The same as all previous years; no one knows what a Public Adjuster is.

What differentiates you from the competition?

Nothing. Public Adjusters do not look at each other as competition. I help other PAs regardless of who they work for.

Sarah:
Welcome back to another episode of Around Town. I am your host, Sarah Olsen, and joining me today is doctor Frank Collige of Property Pros Consulting, a public adjuster and running for Florida’s chief financial officer position. Welcome to the show.

Frank:
Thank you.

Sarah:
I am so glad you’re here. First, I want to talk about your public adjusting and what exactly a public adjuster does. This is your own company. You’re now in eight states as well. Share with the audience more about why there’s such a need for a public adjuster, especially in this climate.

Frank:
All right. Public adjuster is an insurance adjuster that represents the property owner. So whenever someone has a loss, water claim, fire claim, hail or whatever, they report it to the insurance company, and the insurance company will send out their own adjuster, and they’ll determine what is the loss. And that’s asking a multibillion dollar company to give you their money. So what a public adjuster does is basically a private adjuster that represents you and argues the insurance company on your behalf by looking at the policy, applying the policy, and basically just making sure everything is done right. The biggest thing is a lot of homeowners don’t realize they have to do a proof of loss. That’s actually a statutory requirement, and it’s also a requirement of the policy. But they don’t know how, and the carrier is definitely not going to teach them how.

Sarah:
So that’s what we do. Something happens with your house. You have a flood or a roof issue and you’re just calling the insurance company. And then what they want is what you get. They deny the claim and then they fail. And you were telling me earlier off camera that most people just assume that that’s it.

Frank:
That’s it. See, asking the insurance company how much they owe you is like asking your ex’s attorney how much you owe them. They’re not going to want to pay you. If they say your loss is $10,000, I would almost bet anything that it’s actually higher than that. But they’re going to lowball from the very beginning, and it’s up to you to fight it.

Sarah:
And it’s so unfortunate because insurance is so expensive, and you’re paying for this service for years and years just to be when you need a claim to come in, they say no.

Frank:
Yeah. Not only is it expensive, but statutorily you are mandated by law to purchase insurance. If you have a vehicle, you have to have auto insurance. There’s no way around it. So what happens is a lot of insurance companies will get you tied in because they took real good care of you with an auto claim. But then if you have a homeowner’s claim, that’s when the real fun begins. And that’s when you find out they’re not like a good neighbor. You’re not in good hands. And it just trickles from there. You can find tons and tons of stuff online about people complaining about these insurance carriers, and it’s nationwide. I think it is Colorado, I believe it is. Now I could be wrong about that, but one of the states is actually looking into State Farm for Rico charges and stuff like that. So if they’re happening in one state, they’re definitely doing it in all the states.

Sarah:
And so now you’ve expanded into eight states. What states are you in?

Frank:
We are in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina.

Sarah:
That’s fantastic. And so really somebody might not know to call you first, but if they do call you first, what is the process?

Frank:
Okay. So they reach out to us. We will actually send a public adjuster out to their home or their commercial building, whatever it is. We will do the inspection and we will look at their policy and give them, hey, this is something we can work, or it’s not really worth filing a claim because the deductible is this and we’re estimating it’s going to be this. You don’t want to have a claim on file if you’re not going to benefit from it.

Sarah:
Okay. So you do that little investigating before, which makes sense. How do we pay you?

Frank:
It only makes sense for us because we can only collect what we get the homeowner or property owner through insurance. So if we take on a claim and it’s not a winner, we’re just wasting our time and your time, and now you have a claim on file. So of course we’re going to investigate it first before we send it off.

Sarah:
Which makes sense for you and the consumer. So turning to consumer advocates, you’ve decided to run for Florida chief Financial officer as another avenue to protect the people.

Frank:
Yes. I spent my entire adulthood basically serving the country in one way or another. I’m a veteran. I served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I became a state investigator for DPR, and now I’m a public adjuster. So on every aspect I’ve always protected the people.

Sarah:
Thank you for your service.

Frank:
I appreciate it. Now as Florida’s Chief Financial officer, one of the things that a lot of people don’t realize is he actually oversees insurance in the state of Florida. He regulates it. So the reason why our rates are so high is because insurance companies have gotten away with raising rates, and no one is standing up for Floridians. So I decided I’m going to throw my hat in the ring and stand up for Floridians. Now here’s where it gets tricky. Department of Financial Services, which is what the CFO oversees, regulates my license. So if I get elected, I have to give up my company. The company will still be there, but I can’t be part of it. So I had to make a huge sacrifice. But I have to do this because if we don’t take on insurance now, then it’s going to get to the point where it’s beyond being able to be fixed. So we have to do something now, and I’m willing to do it.

Sarah:
You’re really taking a career risk backwards to be able to help much more people. That’s fantastic. Anything else you want to share with our viewers?

Frank:
Two things. One is if you need help with your claim, reach out to us, Property Pros Consulting. Our website is workmyclaim.com. And if you want to support my campaign, my website is frankforchange.com.

Sarah:
That is fantastic. I learned a wealth of information from you being on the phone the other day, and so much again today. I’m so glad that you can share all this information with our viewers. When is the voting day?

Frank:
August 18th is the primary, and I have to win that. In Florida, it’s a party. So we have to win the primary. There are currently no Democrat challengers, so if it stays the same, August 18th is it.

Sarah:
Okay. August 18th. Mark your calendars. Thank you so much for being on the show and coming from Macclenny. I appreciate it so much. And thank you for watching another episode of Around Town. You can watch this episode and get all the information that Frank shared at PropertySolutionsTV.com.
